I have written some steps of making Start Menu work again in my previous article but if you have updated your Windows to Creators Update then some users might be facing issue with Start Menu as I faced. When I upgraded my Windows to Creators Update, my Start Menu got frozen and Search option stopped working. This make me so frustrated as i need Start Menu a lot while using my computer.
Here are some solutions which I applied and now my Start Menu is working again. I hope these will work for you too.
SFC scan is System File Checker scan, it will scan Windows system files for integrity. If any file is found corrupt or damaged, SFC will try to fix it. But sometime it will not be able to repair all files.
Press “Ctrl+Shift+Esc", the Task Manager window will open. Go to File menu and click on Run New Task. Write “Powershell" and enter ok.
Now type sfc /scannow and press enter. It will take some time to complete the scan and you will get either of these 3 results
Windows did not find any integrity violation.
Windows Resource Protection found some corrupt files and repaired them.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but unable to fix them.
If you get 1 or 2 result, then it will be OK, but mostly user gets number 3rd result. Which needs to be sorted out. So now time to apply next solution.
Run DISM command
After the SFC scan, here is another scan which is DISM, this is advanced scan then SFC and will try to fix your issue with Start Menu.
So when your SFC scan will complete enter the “DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" command into Powershell window. This command will download the files from the internet which were found corrupt.
I hope after running this command, your Start Menu will be working fine as before. If you get an error while downloading source files, then go to next solution
Reinstall Windows Apps
Resinattling the Widnows Buil-in Apps which are called Modern Apps, can fix your Start Menu problem also. When i run the command for reinstalling Windows apps, i instantly get my Start Menu’s working back.
This procedure will take some time as it has to first uninstall the apps then reinstall them again to give a fresh start. Ignore the red text if you get any. after completing the command, restart your system once.
These steps were make my Start Menu to work again properly. I hope you can also use these steps confidently to resolve your issue regarding Start Menu and Search option in Windows 10.
